Last month we made a quick trip to Maryland with a friend. We were going with a friend on a trip to a well-known veterinary orthopedic specialist. Good news? No surgery was needed. Bad news? No immediate action steps/specific diagnosis.
But, as we had planned for surgery, we ended up with some extra time before we needed to go back. We weren’t able to find free dog-friendly beaches nearby and didn’t want to pay and then find a beach was too crowded for our dogs. We also weren’t quite up for an extra 4 hour drive to other beach options.
We went and visited a fancy pet store right in Annapolis. Old towns are so different! Tiny streets! Everything super close together! He loved that stop because the employees were very happy to pet him and there were lots of toys to look at.
Unfortunately it was a very hot/humid day so our adventure options were limited – it just wasn’t pleasant to be outside, plus with an injured dog we couldn’t go for hikes.
Maryland is fun. We ended up stopping at one of the rest stops that Griffin and I have been to before. [note old blog posts need pictures re-added!].
This rest stop has an amazing overlook of mountains, lots of interesting signage, and a view that I can’t capture with my poor photography skills. We had the bonus of finding a lot of wild raspberries growing!
I had a few really interesting comments with students when we got back – they were surprised about how much I travel with dogs and thought that it would be challenging. At this point, we’ve traveled so much that I don’t really think twice about it and don’t know what I would do on a trip -without- the dogs! They’re so happy to go places and really don’t care whether it’s a rest stop with a great view, something of historical significance, or a deserted overgrown parking lot. They want fun with me, each other, and time to check out new smells.
