So many things this week! We did two puppy classes – he slept in his crate (in the room) during half of the class I taught. He stayed awake for the 90+ minutes of class yesterday. Playing, eating, resting, doing all the activities. Last night I had four hours of classes in a row, so he came out for one of them and helped demo during a “Come When Called” class. He did great until the end when he had to be crated so that I could help with restrained recalls. We’ll have to do more work with being crated.
He learned to go through the tunnel! It’s not important that he learns it now. We got a new tunnel (nonslip) and when we unpacked it I decided to try using my favorite tunnel technique – I let him follow Griffin through. Easy! We got much better about go in crate, go to mat, backing up, and a foot target. He’s not able to do the impressive tricks that some puppies can do at this age – but I’m okay with that. We did a few sessions on rolling over because he seems to like that a lot. I clipped his nails twice. He also liked the low aframe – not my decision, he did that while playing on his own.
Due to the extreme cold we didn’t get out as much as I would like, but we are at the training facility almost every day and I bring him out to meet people. He’s learned to ride (crated) in the very back of the car. We’ve had a few short walks with all three dogs out together – this won’t last long. Right now he happily follows everyone but soon he will need separate walks to learn leash walking. He’s chewed on bones bigger than his head! I caught him sleeping with Griffin (Griffin didn’t like that).
The physical differences are amazing. He’s much more coordinated and moves so much better. He can visually track well and doesn’t just follow anything moving. He is so fast. We played chase games last night and I was so tired! He had his first off leash running with the big dogs last night – short because Griffin probably shouldn’t run yet. Last week he managed to climb up onto my office chair by himself! He cries at the door when he needs out – which my adult dogs don’t do!
